Treasures of Los Angeles Architecture, a set on Flickr.
It has been my favorite pastime the last couple of years to travel around the great city I call home, searching for the interesting aspects of our built environment. My favorite and indispensible resource has been the authoritative guidebook, "An Architectural Guidebook to Los Angeles" written by David Gebhard and Robert Winter. I also owe a huge debt of gratitude to the other authors who have written excellent resource books, especially Allan Hess, who I also count among my friends and colleagues. I would also like to acknowledge the personal friendship I enjoyed with Photographer JULIUS SHULMAN during the last five years of his life, who provided much inspiration.
Lastly, to the many friends I have met along the way, who share my enthusiasm and passion for our architectural heritage, including the many architects, designers, writers, and neighbors: THANK YOU for the frinedship and encouragement you have provided along the way. To mention a few: Designer Carol Soucek-King who has introduced me to many important architects and influence-makers at her wonderful salons in Pasadena; Martin Schall (www.you-are-here.com) a frequent house guest and co-conspirator; Michael Lehrer, Sean Briski, John Southern and Barbara Bestor, architects who provide inspiration through their design and encouragement, and last but not least, my wonderful wife, Donna Jean, for her patience and enthusiasm for the things I do.
